A Journey to the Center of the Earth is a classic science fiction novel by French author Jules Verne. This illustrated, unabridged tale’s central figure is an eccentric German scientist, Professor Otto Lidenbrock, who thinks there are volcanic tubes that are a path to the center of the earth. To prove his theory, Lidenbrock, his nephew Axel, and their Icelandic guide Hans venture into Snæfellsjökull, an inactive stratovolcano in Iceland. As the team descends to the the center of the earth, they contend with many dangers, including cave-ins, subpolar tornadoes, an underground ocean, and living prehistoric creatures.
